Distomicide 25% 250ml is an internal antiparasitic in injectable solution based on Nitroxinil, indicated for the treatment of liver fluke, gastrointestinal nematodosis and ovine oestrosis.
It also eliminates adult flukes, acting actively against Fasciola hepatica and Fasciola gigantica, adult and larval forms of Haemonchus contortus, Haemonchus placei, Oesophaostomum radiatum, Bunostomun phlebotomun and Oestrus ovis.

Withdrawal Time:
Meat: Cattle and sheep may be slaughtered for human consumption only after 63 days from last treatment.
Milk: Not authorised for use in cattle and sheep producing milk for human consumption including during the dry period.
Dosage:
Cattle: 2ml per 50kg
Sheep: 1ml per 25kg

How Livestock Contracts Liver Fluke
Animals are infected by ingesting encapsulated larvae (metacercariae) on contaminated grass. Typically,individual farms will have wet “flukey areas” that should not be used or grazed at times of the year when metacercariae are likely to be present, i.e. late summer to winter (depending on climatic conditions). However,cattle and sheep often graze on such areas. Therefore, it cannot be assumed that liver fluke infection is absent from any area of Ireland.
